What's New?

3/24/11: Today's Update: A Painting, A Pinup and a Published Page

Three new pieces to peruse today. A very nice painting of the Torch by Sara Richard is first up. Richard is a talented independent artist and I was happy to secure a commission by her. Second is an unpublished pinup of the Torch by Carlo Pagulayan. This was a tryout page for Marvel Adventures. Pagulayan has done a lot of work on the Marvel Adventures line and a few of these pages are already represented on the site. Finally, a published page by Barry Kitson featuring Johnny with past romantic interests Frankie Ray, Namorita and Crystal rounds out the update. I've admired Kitson's work for some time so I was happy to add a published page by this well known artist.

2/22/11: The Human Torch Lives! New Art Added

Despite the ill advised demise of Johnny Storm withing the pages of Fantastic Four, updates to the Human Torch Art Project continue on! Today's update features three new pages. A commission by Mike DeCarlo features the Human Torch getting the better of classic Fantastic Four villain, Rama-Tut. In addition, two pages by Chris McJunkin have been added. The first is a full color commission. After receiving that piece, I picked up a second unpublished piece by the same artist.

11/10/10: Published, Unpublished and Card Art Added

The latest update of the Human Torch Art Project include original card art, an unpublished piece and two published pages. First up is Human Torch card art by Bryan Hitch from the Marvel Vs. system. Also added was an unpublished pencil image of the Torch by Inacio. In addition, two published pages from Marvel Adventures: Fantastic Four #9 were added to my Carlo Pagulayan section. I already owned a page from this same issue and these two new pages complete a three page sequence of the Torch dodging missiles.

10/28/10: Templeton and Tan Art Added

Today's update includes both a published and unpublished page featuring the Human Torch. From the 2005 Spider-Man / Human Torch mini-series is a page by Ty Templeton. It includes a battle between the Torch and long time Spider-Man villain, the Vulture with the Torch emerging victorious (naturally). Also new to the site is an unpublished page by talented artist Philp Tan who is well known for work on such major titles as Spawn, Uncanny X-Men and Green Lantern.

3/29/10: Three New Pieces Added Including A Published Page By Jim Lee!

We've got a major update today with the addition of a published Fantastic Four page by the great Jim Lee with inks by longtime collaborator, Scott Williams. I've long wanted an example by Lee included on the site and this page, featuring a great splashy Torch image, fits the bill perfectly. Two other pieces were also added today. First, is a detailed pencil image of the Human Torch vs. the Sub-Mariner by Marcio Abreau. I also have acquired another Fred Hembeck piece. This one features one of the great Silver Age love triangles with the Torch and Quicksilver fighting over Crystal, the elemental inhuman.

2/17/10: Art by Dunn, Breitweiser and Ellis Added Today

Three new pieces of Human Torch art were added today. We'll start off with a great commission by Ben Dunn which features the Human Torch battling two long time Fantastic Four villains, Sandman and Klaw. Second is an unpublished image of the Torch by Mitch Breitweiser. Breitweiser has done some stellar work for Marvel in recent times with his run on Captain America particularly noteworthy. A piece by Rich Ellis, featuring the Torch in a city scene, rounds out today's update.

A few more Human Torch pieces were scanned and posted today. First up is published page from Fantastic Four Unplugged by Adriana Melo. It includes a splashy impage of the Torch and the Mole Man's minions. Next is an image of the Fantastic Four, based on the movie version of the group, by Hao Phong. A three minute sketch of the Torch by Al Bigley represents the artist's second piece featured on this site. U.K. artist Russ.D.Toole depicts a meeting between the Torch and the stars of Toole's independent strip, Evil Ed and Nasty Ted. Like Al Bigley, Alex Lei has a second piece added to the site today. It's a double page splash of the Torch surrounded by several Marvel women. Finally, A sketch card by Brendan and Brian Fraim provides a nice color image of the Torch.

1/1/10: The New Year Brings New Human Torch Art

Happy New Year from the Human Torch Art Project. With the new year comes new Human Torch Art. Today's update includes a nice Johnny Storm image penciled by the great Paul Smith. I also had Joe Rubinstein ink a blue line copy of the piece which can be viewed on the same page. Next up is a watercolor commission by Vince Locke which features a rather unique take on the character. Some time ago, I commissioned Fred Hembeck to re-do a classic Fantastic Four cover. More recently, I added to my Hembeck collection with three unpublished pages featuring the Torch with Captain America, Spider-Man and Iceman. Finally, a commission by Josh Howard featuring the Torch battling Spider-Woman has been added to the site.

12/8/09: Human Torch Art Project Updates Are Back!

After a long absence, the Human Torch Art Project is back with newly added art. First up are not one, not two, but three new Skottie Young Human Torch covers. These are covers from the 2003 Human Torch series (issues 1, 3 and 4). Second is a stunning commission by Eric W. Meador depicting a fierce battle between the Torch and Wolverine. In the spirit of the holiday season, an interesting page from the Marvel Holiday Special 2005 by Mike Perkins has been added to the published art section. But wait, there's more! Well known artist Pop Mhan is now represented on the site with both a solo Torch commission and a published page from Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man. Finally, my Greg LaRocque pencil commission now includes inks by Joe Rubinstein. I hope you enjoy viewing the new pieces. There will be additional updates in the near future as I sort through and scan art acquired over the past several months.
